Today on the SP Blog, I’m sharing some of my favorites images from my Saturday session at Pike Place Market. (Between you and me, being a family photographer is moving up to one of my favorite session types.) Although I’ve visited this part of Seattle numerous times, it was actually my first time photographing a session here. This sweet family was in town from Utah and wanted a very “Seattle” aesthetic for their family photos. Normally I’d try to schedule a session where there’s heavy foot-traffic for sunrise time, but Kairisti didn’t mind people in the back of the photos. I’m glad we didn’t worry too much about the pedestrians because it made the photos look authentically Seattle-like. (Again, between you and me, I did try to block as many people out of the frame as I could :P)
Kairisti and I chatted before her session about location ideas, outfits, etc. and I could already tell that I was going to have a blast with her family. If someone can make me laugh in an email before even meeting, then I always have a good feeling about our time together! Fast forward to this adorable family session. Kairisti and Brayden were super parents with promises of treats and a bag of Skittles to keep their little ones happy. Boy, did those Skittles work! I always bring along a little treat for the end of the session, as well, because bribery is practically essential.
The “Money Shot”
What I like to call my “money shot” is everyone smiling and looking at my camera. If you’re a parent, then you know that is a lot easier said than done. All of my family sessions start with the “money shot” and I’ll try to get as many as I can whenever I move my families from spot to spot. Clara and Roland were probably the easiest kids to get to smile at my camera at the start of their session. All we had to say was “cheese” and they perked up into position.
Once we started playing games, attention spans wandered. To all parents, I promise that this is okay! This is a great time for me to capture candids of you kids’ personalities and they are just as adorable! I invite you to scroll through some of the precious, sassy, and silly photos from this Pike Place Family Session and I’d love to know which is your favorite, too!
XOXO,
SP
