Yesterday was our first wedding anniversary and we thought it would be fun to share a few things that we’ve learned in this last year. We also wanted to share some of our favorite photos from our recent anniversary session in Olympia, WA. Although it was a long drive, it was so worth it to document our first wedding anniversary 🙂 I keep telling Michael that if we lived in Olympia, we’d do all of our sessions by the capitol buildings because they have it all: stunning architecture, greenery, epic water fountains, you name it. We ended our session at Olympia Coffee to keep our tradition of coffee shop photos. We’re obsessed with coffee, if it’s not obvious!
On the day of our anniversary, we woke up bright and early in New York City to have photos taken on the Brooklyn Bridge. It was our first time in New York and we had a nice visit in the short amount of time that we were there. After finishing sunrise photos, we tried to go to a cafe in Manhattan that Michael’s dad suggested, but it was closed. We ended up finding a cafe around the corner and picked up some black coffee and the most delicious chocolate chip cookie I think I’ve ever eaten. We initially planned to spend our day site seeing, but ultimately decided to drive home a little early so we had extra time to spend with family. We grabbed some bagels and lox for the road and drove a little more than 2 hours back to Delaware. Once we were back in Delaware, my sweet aunt took us to dinner to celebrate and we ended the night with some wine (sauvignon blanc is my fave)! I couldn’t have wished for a better day with better people 🙂
We’re not here to say that we are all-knowing when it comes to marriage. One year is nothing compared to those couples who spend a lifetime together in marriage. I mean, I think the only thing we’ve “fought” about this year was how I eat Michael’s snacks without asking. On top of all of the wisdom people have given us as well as our own experiences together, here are a few things that we’ve learned in our first year of marriage:
Everyone knows that life can get crazy sometimes and we always come back to this by Dr. John Gottman to keep our relationship on track; maybe it’ll be useful to you, too!:
